The removal of the navbar works great, with the user and theme toggle buttons now on the sidebar, however, the previous sidebar function of collapsing to be narrow on smaller screens is no longer sufficient.

I need to change the sidebar to be completely hidden on smaller screens, and act as an offcanvas component from the Bootstrap framework. A hovering button should appear on smaller screens to reveal the offcanvas, or a swipe motion should reveal it.
